Channel Estimation Evaluation For a Massive MIMO System Considering Spatially Correlated Channels in an Urban Network

Channel estimation (CE) is an important process that done during the pilot transmission phase in each base station. This work addresses this for massive multiple-input multiple-output systems by studying scenario where channels are spatially correlated. Throughout work, spatial correlation between modeled using exponential model. The minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimator’s performance uncorrelated and correlated compared examined normalized (NMSE) metric, presented through two array designs, namely proposed uniform planar (UPA) linear (ULA). In comparison to situation, a more practical represents real- world environment provides superior channel estimate quality since advantageous CE. Hence, we UPA arrangement based on Kronecker product of ULA outperforms offers comparedto ULA. Numerical results offered order support our analytical study.
